Windows 7 sales spree helps Microsoft posts higher profits!

Tech companies Q3 numbers have been the buzz for quite sometime now – most of the biggies such as Apple, Google, Nokia continue to perform really well.

Microsoft Corp. has this amazing knack of consistently leading in some segments – as per the news that are coming in, Windows 7 has sold more than 240 million copies in its first year making it the fastest selling operating system ever in the history. In fact Windows 7 sales have helped the software company to record profits even with a recent plunge in growth of computer sales.

Apple Inc.’s OS X and Linux-based operating systems have been able to gain some market share in the last 2-3 years, but the fact remains that Microsoft still rules the roost with 90% market share of the world’s 1.4 billion or so personal computers, and is expecting more customers to upgrade to or buy Windows 7.

Microsoft’s top-line touched $62.5 billion last year, largely powered by Windows – in fact the Windows vertical is still Microsoft’s core, contributing more than 25% of overall sales and about half of its profit.
